‘All Korean men smoke from the same cigarette’ is a representation of cross generational kinship, bonding, and trauma. There’s no other activity that has brought me closer to Korean men than through the act of smoking a cigarette. It’s mundane yet sacred – men huddled together for a brief moment in time. It brings together those of us who are unable to communicate or be vulnerable in any other way. It’s community and connection. With that said, please do not smoke.
